De school is de laatste plek waar de seculiere staat zijn overtuigingen kan overbrengen op leerlingen. Wat kan de staat nog doen als over een tiental jaren de meerderheid van de leerlingen islam als geloof van huis mee krijgt?

De seculiere samenleving is in gevaar. De overheid is niet langer in staat om het seculiere karakter van onze samenleving te waarborgen. Het aantal zwarte scholen neemt elk jaar toe.
Tussen 1985 en 1994 nam het aantal zwarte scholen toe van 30 naar 139 (bron). Het is al voorgekomen dat zwarte scholen moesten sluiten, omdat ouders daar hun kinderen liever niet meer heen stuurden (in 2002).
Het meest dominante verschijnsel van de achteruitgang van de scholen is echter de voortschrijdende islamisering.

It’s Crunch Time for Israel on Iran

After years of failed diplomacy no one will be able to call an attack precipitous.

Legions of senior American officials have descended on Jerusalem recently, but the most important of them has been Defense Secretary Robert Gates. His central objective was to dissuade Israel from carrying out military strikes against Iran’s nuclear weapons facilities. Under the guise of counseling “patience,” Mr. Gates again conveyed President Barack Obama’s emphatic thumbs down on military force.

The public outcome of Mr. Gates’s visit appeared polite but inconclusive. Yet Iran’s progress with nuclear weapons and air defenses means Israel’s military option is declining over time. It will have to make a decision soon, and it will be no surprise if Israel strikes by year’s end. Israel’s choice could determine whether Iran obtains nuclear weapons in the foreseeable future.

Goede Duitsers

Mijn ouders hebben goede Duitsers gekend. Nog voor de oorlog begonnen was, hadden die goede Duitsers al voor het gevaar van Duitsland gewaarschuwd.

Die goede Duitsers zeiden niet dat je Hitlers Mein Kampf maar niet zo letterlijk moest nemen. Evenmin scholden ze op wie Duitsland kritiseerde, of uitten ze bedreigingen jegens zulke mensen.

Goede Duitsers beoordeelden Duitse gruweldaden niet als incidentele excessen. Zij veroordeelden daarentegen zulke gruweldaden als onvermijdelijk gevolg van de ideologie die Duitsland in zijn greep had gekregen. Zij waren niet van oordeel dat de nieuwe Duitse ideologie (afgezien van de excessen) voor het overige verder wel invoegbaar was in onze democratie.

Obama reads Pushkin

Two weeks ago it was the Urdu poets. This week it's Obama's love for Pushkin's poetry. The week before it was probably the Bhadavad-Gita in Sanskrit. If it's Tuesday this must be Zorba the Greek --- in Greek.


It's all in a day's light reading for our Obama. Whaddaguy! He lifts weights two hours a day and has pecs like Arnie. Then he spends the rest of the day reading Urdu, Russian, and classical Arabic. Then he runs the three-trillion dollar US economy down the tubes all by himself, takes over the banks, passes Health Care for All (and saves money in the bargain!) and has just enough time left to read his daughters to sleep. Urdu poems, natch. Gotta get those kids started early.

Honduras Defends Its Democracy

Hugo Chávez's coalition-building efforts suffered a setback yesterday when the Honduran military sent its president packing for abusing the nation's constitution.

It seems that President Mel Zelaya miscalculated when he tried to emulate the success of his good friend Hugo in reshaping the Honduran Constitution to his liking.

But Honduras is not out of the Venezuelan woods yet. Yesterday the Central American country was being pressured to restore the authoritarian Mr. Zelaya by the likes of Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega, Hillary Clinton and, of course, Hugo himself. The Organization of American States, having ignored Mr. Zelaya's abuses, also wants him back in power. It will be a miracle if Honduran patriots can hold their ground.

Since Iran's controversial and disputed election, President Obama has been noticeably restrained in his reaction. He has flashed his empathy, saying on Tuesday that he was "appalled and outraged" by the regime's brutality, but he has been equally emphatic about not being perceived as meddling in Iran's internal affairs. Despite increasing political heat, even from Democrats and the usually adulatory U.S. media, Obama persists in his low-key approach, clinging to emotive generalizations.

But it is the president's underlying policies that are wrong, not just his rhetoric. Saying that he does not want the "debate" inside Iran to be about the United States is disingenuous at best. Obama's real objective is to launch negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, in the belief that he can talk Iran out of its 20-year effort to acquire deliverable nuclear weapons. He said it during the 2008 campaign, during his inaugural address and repeatedly thereafter.

Australia leads the way in rejecting climate change 'solutions'

Something important is happening in the debate over man-made global warming. Australia is beginning to rethink its government's own cap and trade scheme while an intellectual sea change is occurring that is giving more weight to legitimate scientific criticisms of the evidence for climate change.

Robert Tracinski and Tom Minchin writing in RealClear Politics explain that the government of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has had a series of "climb downs" on climate change legislation that gives hope that sanity may prevail in at least one westernized industrial democracy.

Take Australian Senator Steve Fielding who decided to investigate the evidence himself. An engineer by training, Fielding attended the recent Heartland Institutes Climate Change conference where skeptics presented about a dozen papers that exposed several myths about global warming:

Er is een grote overeenkomst tussen de manier waarop de gevestigde partijen nu met Wilders omgaan en destijds met Fortuyn.

De argumenten waarmee ontredderde politici over Wilders en de PVV spreken, zijn een exacte kopie van de strijd van de gevestigde orde tegen Fortuyn. Weer waarschuwt de benauwde elite dat bevolkingsgroepen tegen elkaar worden opgezet, dat Wilders net als Fortuyn gevaarlijk is en dat de PVV angst zaait. Maar is Wilders wel hét gevaar? Biedt Wilders wellicht hoop waar de bestuurlijke middenpartijen falen?

No Matter Who Is President of Iran, They Would Stone Me

Why didn’t I vote in the latest elections for the president of the country of my birth, Iran? Because no matter who is the president of Iran, they would stone me!

As an Iranian woman, I require big changes in order to convince myself that a change in president would mean an improvement of my basic rights as human being inside Iran.

I was among many Iranians who decided not to vote in the recent [s]election. We boycotted the sham election in my motherland and have not been surprised by the results publicized by the mainstream media, both in Iran and elsewhere. This puppet regime has never considered the people’s wishes and has always acted in the interests of the few who are in charge of the prison called Iran. Cheating, lying and hypocrisy are the specialties of the religious demagogues that maintain the farce that Iran is a democratic state.

Here are some simple facts that demonstrate that irrespective of who is president, I would be stoned to death in Iran:

Ondanks toezeggingen van staatssecretaris Ank Bijleveld (CDA) van Koninkrijksrelaties, komt er geen onderzoek naar corruptie en wantoestanden op Aruba. De Arubaanse premier Nelson Oduber kondigde na een gesprek met Bijleveld in plaats daarvan een plan aan dat de Arubaanse regering moet helpen beter te presteren zodat geruchten op een ‘effectievere manier’ kunnen worden weerlegd.

Met andere woorden, Nederland gaat weer helpen om een grotere doofpot aan te schaffen. Duidelijk, toch? Blijf op de gevestigde partijen stemmen en alles blijft bij het oude, inclusief de corruptie. Hoeveel zetels zou dit de PVV weer opleveren?

I may die...

This is a brief letter written by an Iranian woman who is going to attend the anti-regime rally tomorrow:


I'll participate in the rally tomorrow in Tehran. It might be violent. I may be one of those who will die tomorrow. I want to listen to all beautiful tunes that I have heard in my life, again. I want to listen to some cheap Los Angeles made Iranian music. I always wanted to have much narrower eyebrows too. Yeah, I'll check in with my hair-dresser tomorrow before I go to the rally. Oh, there are some excellent scenes in the famous Iranian movie Hamoon I want to see before I leave. And I gotta re-visit my own bookshelf. Iran's poets Shamloo's and Farrokhzad's poems are worth re-reading. I've to see the family photo albums once again.

I'll have to call my friends and say good-bye to them. In this big world, my possession is only two bookshelves. I've already told mom and dad whom to give these books to in case I never come back. There are only two more courses left for me to get my BA degree but to hell with the degree. I'm anxious and excited.

I wrote these scattered words for the future generations so that they know we were not sentimental or uselessly emotional. I'm writing this so they know we did every thing in our power to make this work for them and so that they realize if our forefathers surrendered to the Arab and Mongolian invaders physically, but they didn't give in to their tyranny with their spirits. They resisted it. And I wrote this for tomorrow's children...

Conservative foreign and national-security policies do not need remaking, rebranding or remessaging. They need not be escorted by prefixes or adjectives, nor do they need "moderating."

Conservative foreign policy is unabashedly pro-American, unashamed of American exceptionalism, unwilling to bend its knee to international organizations, and unapologetic about the need for the fullest range of dominant military capabilities. Its diplomacy is neither unilateralist nor multilateralist, but chooses its strategies, tactics, means and methods based on a hard-headed assessment of U.S. national interests, not on theologies about process. Most especially, conservatives understand that allies are different from adversaries, and that each should be treated accordingly.

Rena Netjes blijkt een ordinaire stemmenronselaar

De soap rond het Amsterdamse duoraadslid Rena Netjes (CDA) krijgt een bizarre ontknoping. Netjes, die ondanks dringende waarschuwingen vanuit de eigen partij een dertiende plek op de CDA-lijst had gekregen, kwam op de dag voor de Europese verkiezingen in opspraak door een interview met de salafistische website Al Yaqeen.

“Ik wil het opnemen voor de moslims”, beloofde Netjes, “want ik vind het heel erg wat er nu allemaal gebeurt en dit moet stoppen. Ik zal mijn nek voor jullie uitsteken. Wat er nu gebeurt is gewoon onrecht.”
